About Susan Kirkpatrick
In my ten years running Kirkpatrick Communications and during my time working in WNY, Atlanta and Boston, I have been fortunate to work with a smart, creative and diverse group of organizations and individuals. Susan Kirkpatrick is a veteran public relations/communications professional with over two decades of experience in public relations, communications and marketing. She has worked in agency and corporate settings and has been an independent practitioner since 2007 when she opened Kirkpatrick Communications.
Her experience includes national, regional and local work in the healthcare, consumer products, service and retail industries, as well as for non-profit organizations. She has worked in the Boston, Atlanta, and Buffalo markets, providing her with a national perspective on communications strategies.
Kirkpatrick’s areas of expertise in marketing communications/PR include overall communications strategy development, media relations/publicity, writing, event planning and support, digital communications, as well as issues management and crisis communications counsel.
In Western New York, prior to going into business for herself, Susan worked with Cenergy Communications and Crowley Webb and Associates, providing public relations services for both agencies’ varied clients. Prior to that, Kirkpatrick was with The Athlete’s Foot in Atlanta overseeing all external communications for the country’s fifth largest athletic footwear retailer.
Also in Atlanta, Kirkpatrick served as national public relations director for Rollins, Inc., parent company of Orkin Pest Control, where she developed and implemented public relations strategies for one of the nation’s leading service companies. She acted as primary spokesperson, oversaw pro-active media relations efforts and marketing communications activities. She was the company point person on crisis communications issues, directed the firm’s crisis planning efforts and provided counsel and support.
Prior to her work with Rollins, Inc., Kirkpatrick was a vice president at Hill and Knowlton, Inc., an international public relations firm, in Atlanta, where she directed and supervised communications programs for Fortune 500 firms, government agencies, health care institutions and others. In Boston, Kirkpatrick worked at Arnold Public Relations, a subsidiary of Arnold Advertising where she planned and implemented communications programs.
As owner of Kirkpatrick Communications, Kirkpatrick provides counsel on communications strategy as well as media relations support; extensive writing in the form of annual reports, print and electronic newsletters, press materials, weblogs, collateral materials and website copy; digital communications and social media; and event planning and support. Kirkpatrick also has extensive experience in issues management and crisis communications that can be of great value to her clients when the unexpected arises!
